The singer, born Oliver Tree Nickell, spoke openly about his intentions during an April appearance on the Zach Sang Show. He told host Zach Sang that his estate was structured to bypass traditional inheritance, directing earnings from his catalog back into the arts. The project, titled 'Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Grant for Baby Geniuses,' is expected to launch soon, according to a June 21 update from his team.
Tree died on June 14 alongside five others when two helicopters collided above an electric car dealership in Brazil. The group included three companions and two pilots. Following the recovery of the victims, the singer’s remains were returned to California for burial. His mother, Christine Begin Nickell, recently shared a tribute on social media, reflecting on the upbringing that saw her son travel and perform in a circus environment long before his rise to fame with Atlantic Records and his own label, Alien Boy.
Since the tragedy, collaborators and peers including Diplo, Post Malone, and Melanie Martinez have expressed their condolences. Brazilian rapper DUPÊ, who worked with Tree shortly before the crash, credited the artist for his genuine efforts to highlight Brazilian culture on a global stage. As the investigation into the collision concludes, the team’s focus remains on establishing the grant as a permanent component of the singer’s legacy.
