BioArctic Secures $770 Million Deal with Eli Lilly for Brain Technology

Under the terms of the collaboration, BioArctic will engineer a drug candidate that leverages its BrainTransporter platform—a system designed to shuttle biologics across the blood-brain barrier via the transferrin receptor. While BioArctic leads the initial development of this specific molecule, Eli Lilly assumes full responsibility for the subsequent global development and commercialization of any resulting products. Should the project reach the market, BioArctic stands to gain tiered, mid-single digit royalties on global sales, alongside potential milestone payments totaling $770 million.

This deal marks the fourth time BioArctic has successfully licensed its platform to a major pharmaceutical partner. CEO Gunilla Osswald emphasized that the collaboration validates the company's ambition to address severe neurological disorders by improving drug delivery efficacy. BioArctic maintains rights to utilize the BrainTransporter technology for other therapeutic areas outside the scope of its existing agreements, leaving the door open for further partnerships as the firm continues its research into Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and ALS.
