Newark Consolidates World Cup Fan Festivities at Ironbound Hub

Two of Newark’s largest soccer celebrations are merging into a single, massive event on June 24. Organizers of Flag Cities 2026 and the Newark Fan Village will host "Kicking It in Newark Together" at 70 Ferry Street, transforming the Ironbound district into the city’s primary destination for FIFA World Cup matches.

The consolidated festival, running from 2:00 p.m. to midnight, moves the Flag Cities event from its original location at Mulberry Commons to the Fan Village site. This shift places the celebration just two blocks from Newark Penn Station, offering improved capacity and accessibility for fans. The venue will feature giant LED screens broadcasting all six matches scheduled for the day, ranging from Switzerland versus Canada to the evening finale between Czechia and Mexico.

Beyond live sports, the event centers on a high-energy cultural program featuring headline performances by DJ Funkmaster Flex and DJ Big Ben. Attendees can access international food trucks, craft vendors, and a premium bar service. The initiative represents a broad coalition of local leadership, including Mayor Ras J. Baraka, the Meadowlands Chamber of Commerce, and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, all aiming to leverage the global tournament to highlight Newark’s cultural diversity and economic vitality. Admission to the festival is free and open to the public.
