Nuvo Targets Rural Maternity Care Gaps with RHTP Application Aid

The support initiative provides rural hospitals and OB practices with clinical evidence files, budget templates, and procurement materials tailored to individual state requirements. By streamlining the application process, Nuvo intends to help providers leverage federal capital to deploy its FDA-cleared wearable technology, which allows patients to undergo clinical-grade fetal monitoring from home. This remote capability is intended to mitigate the impact of "maternity care deserts," where one in three U.S. counties currently lacks a dedicated birthing facility.

Dr. Nadav Schwartz, a member of Nuvo's advisory board and director of obstetrical imaging at the University of Pennsylvania, emphasized that remote monitoring offers a tangible way to maintain oversight of high-risk pregnancies without requiring patients to travel long distances. Once funding is secured and contracts are finalized, Nuvo expects most clinical sites to integrate the platform and begin patient monitoring within two to four weeks. CEO Laurence Klein noted that the support package was developed specifically to address feedback from rural providers who found the initial grant paperwork prohibitive, preventing them from accessing available infrastructure resources before the narrow end-of-year commitment window closes.
