Wacaco Reinvents Immersion Brewing with the Cup-Powered Prestina

By turning the drinking vessel into the brewing mechanism, Wacaco has eliminated the traditional piston from the manual coffee process. The new Prestina brewer, announced in Hong Kong, promises a full-bodied immersion cup in under sixty seconds, stripping the ritual of coffee preparation down to a single, compact, hand-powered unit.

The Prestina functions through a simplified immersion technique that requires 15 grams of medium-ground coffee and 240 milliliters of hot water. After a one-minute infusion, the user presses the cup directly into the brewer body to complete the cycle. This design removes the need for electricity, paper filters, or single-use capsules, relying instead on an integrated stainless steel filter to retain natural oils while producing a clean finish.

Designed for portability, the six-piece kit includes a brewer body, portafilter, cup, lid, spoon, and drip tray. When nested, the entire assembly measures 134 by 85 by 85 millimeters and weighs 254 grams. Hugo Cailleton, Wacaco’s co-founder and chief designer, noted that the breakthrough originated from the realization that the cup could function as part of the mechanical system rather than a separate accessory.

The Prestina is currently available in Sage Green, Clay Pink, and Coal Black for 29.90 USD. Following its retail launch, the device will be featured at the World of Coffee event in Brussels from June 25 to 27.
