Hitachi Energy Targets Transformer Supply Chain with Canduct Acquisition

Hitachi Energy has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Ontario-based Canduct Group, a move designed to resolve persistent bottlenecks in the North American transformer supply chain. The deal, expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, integrates over 300 employees into the global firm's regional manufacturing operations.

Canduct has specialized in the production of transformer insulation kits and components for original equipment manufacturers and repair firms since 1982. This acquisition formalizes a long-standing partnership, as the Canadian manufacturer has served as a key supplier to Hitachi Energy for more than two decades.

Bruno Melles, CEO of Hitachi Energy’s Business Unit Transformers, stated that the move is intended to bolster regional production capacity in response to the region's rising electricity demand. By bringing these operations in-house, the company aims to improve delivery timelines for essential grid infrastructure. The integration of Canduct’s insulation expertise is part of a broader effort to secure the supply of critical components—including bushings and tap-changers—required to maintain the stability of electricity networks across the United States and Canada.
