Lake Victoria Gold bolsters Tanzanian team for Imwelo mine transition

Lake Victoria Gold has appointed a new in-country finance and compliance leadership team in Tanzania, signaling a shift from project development to operational execution at its fully permitted Imwelo Gold Project as the company prepares for construction and eventual production in the prolific Lake Victoria Goldfield.

The appointment of Joseph Ntiga as Acting Chief Financial Officer and Cosmas Tungaraza as Compliance Officer marks a strategic pivot for the Vancouver-based developer. While such hires are often overlooked in favor of drilling results, they address the complex regulatory and administrative hurdles required to build a mine in Tanzania. These roles are tasked with managing local-content requirements, tax compliance, and financial governance, functions that are critical to moving a project from the drawing board to the field.

Imwelo sits in a high-profile neighborhood, positioned near AngloGold Ashanti’s Geita Gold Mine. The project’s status as a fully permitted site provides a significant advantage in a sector where permitting delays often stall progress for years. To support this transition, the company is leveraging a strategic partnership with the Taifa Group, Tanzania’s largest mining contractor, which brings substantial equipment and regional experience to the development. Despite this momentum, management faces substantial hurdles; the company has not yet completed a feasibility study establishing mineral reserves that meet current NI 43-101 standards. This means any move toward production carries higher technical and economic risks than a project supported by finalized, current feasibility data. Investors are watching to see if this strengthened team can navigate these operational challenges and translate permits into active, profitable gold production.
