Tom Holland eyes Emmy winner Owen Cooper as Spider-Man successor

As Tom Holland prepares for his fourth solo outing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the actor is already looking toward the franchise’s future. He has publicly identified 16-year-old British actor Owen Cooper, the youngest male performer to ever win a Primetime Emmy, as his ideal candidate to eventually inherit the web-slinging mantle.

Holland, who famously once claimed he would have failed if he were still playing the character after turning 30, has adjusted his perspective. He now suggests the baton might pass at 37, expressing a desire to act as a mentor for his successor, much like Robert Downey Jr. served as a guide during his own early tenure. Director Destin Daniel Cretton noted that, unlike many actors who grow weary of long-running roles, Holland remains deeply engaged, even influencing the development of the new suit and the film’s narrative direction.

The production of Brand New Day faced its own challenges, specifically when Holland requested a delay to accommodate filming Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Although the scheduling conflict created an uncomfortable negotiation with Sony, the extra time allowed for significant script refinements. Holland believes this installment represents the strongest version of the character to date, and despite his previous hesitations about the role, he now intends to portray Peter Parker for as long as the studio permits. The film is scheduled for a July 31 release.
