John Hunt joins Marks and Spencer as Chief Digital and Technology Officer

After a decade at the Woolworths Group, John Hunt is moving to Marks and Spencer this summer to lead the retailer’s digital, data, and technology operations. He steps into the role currently held by Sacha Berendji, who will remain on the M&S executive committee until April 2027.

Hunt arrives at a pivotal moment for the British retailer as it continues a long-term digital transformation strategy. During his tenure at Woolworths Group, he served as Chief Information Officer and Managing Director of Group Enablement. He expressed enthusiasm for joining the brand, noting his interest in applying his retail technology experience to the company's ongoing evolution.

Sacha Berendji, who has been with the retailer for over 32 years, will transition out of his current function while continuing his involvement with the firm. M&S Chief Executive Stuart Machin praised Berendji’s long-standing contributions, describing him as a trusted colleague and a vital source of institutional wisdom. Berendji plans to focus on remaining company priorities until his scheduled departure in 2027.
