Roasting Plant Coffee Targets Global Scale With Proprietary Tech

With a mandate to replicate its U.S. and UK success, Roasting Plant Coffee is launching an aggressive international licensing push. Led by former Starbucks executive Doug Satzman, the company aims to export its Javabot automated in-store roasting system to high-traffic hubs across Asia and the Middle East.

The strategy centers on the company’s proprietary Javabot technology, which automates the roasting and brewing process to serve custom cups in under a minute. By integrating roasting directly into the retail environment, the brand seeks to solve the specialty coffee industry’s struggle with balancing artisanal quality and rapid store-level throughput.

Expansion is already underway with a landmark agreement in Singapore, where the company plans to open up to 50 locations over the next decade. This move complements ongoing growth in the United States, including recent high-traffic partnerships with The Fresh Market in Florida and Illinois. While the company continues to operate its five established London sites, it is actively scouting for a regional partner to accelerate its footprint across the United Kingdom. CEO Doug Satzman and co-founder Mike Caswell, both Starbucks veterans, argue that the system’s ability to deliver consistent, fresh-roasted coffee at scale provides a distinct competitive edge for airport, university, and shopping center locations worldwide.
