CCRM and OmniaBio to Pilot Avectas Manufacturing Platform

A new partnership between CCRM, its subsidiary OmniaBio, and Irish firm Avectas aims to solve the manufacturing bottlenecks currently hindering the mass production of regenerative medicines. The collaboration focuses on integrating Avectas’ automated platform into a global hub-and-spoke model designed to make cell and gene therapies more affordable and accessible.

The evaluation will test how Avectas’ technology fits into the Intelligent Factory, OmniaBio’s AI-enabled initiative for robotic manufacturing. By automating complex workflows, the partners intend to address the persistent challenges of scale-up and scale-out that often limit the reach of breakthrough therapies. Dr. Michael May, CEO of CCRM and interim leader of OmniaBio, noted that identifying technologies capable of improving efficiency is vital for the success of their expanding network of hubs in Canada, Australia, and the Nordic region.

This initiative coincides with a broader push to strengthen the biotechnology sector in Ireland. Following a recent Memorandum of Understanding between Irish and Canadian authorities, CCRM is exploring the establishment of a new hub in Ireland alongside the Research Ireland RINN Centre for Advanced Therapies. Dr. Michael Maguire, CEO of Avectas, described the timing as a milestone for international cooperation in life sciences, positioning the company’s manufacturing platform as a central component in the infrastructure development between the two nations.
