Generac Expands Megawatt Generator Output with New Illinois Plant

Generac Holdings is scaling its industrial manufacturing footprint by acquiring a new facility in Belvidere, Illinois. The move aims to accelerate the packaging and assembly of large-megawatt generators, specifically targeting the surging power requirements of data centers and other mission-critical sectors that rely on robust backup infrastructure.

The Belvidere site functions as a strategic extension of the company’s existing operations, most notably the recent acquisition of Enercon Engineering. By focusing on enclosure assembly and final unit packaging, the facility bridges a critical gap in the supply chain for shipment-ready power systems. According to Erik Wilde, President of Domestic C&I at Generac, this expansion is a direct response to the high-velocity demand for reliable power, ensuring the company can scale production without compromising delivery speeds.

This project joins a series of infrastructure investments across Wisconsin, including expanded operations in Oshkosh, Beaver Dam, and Sussex. The choice of Belvidere offers logistical advantages, providing the company with direct access to major interstate corridors for transporting oversized equipment. Once fully operational in the first quarter of 2027, the plant is expected to create over 100 new jobs.
