Ed Child departs Costa Coffee after five-year data leadership

After five years driving digital transformation at Costa Coffee, Global Head of Consumer Data and Digital Analytics Ed Child is stepping down. The veteran data specialist, whose resume includes stints at Asda and Walmart, confirmed his exit via LinkedIn, citing a desire to pursue new opportunities closer to his Yorkshire home.

During his tenure, Child spearheaded the creation of the Costa Data and Analytics Community, a central hub designed to unify data employees across the global business. He also championed internal apprenticeship programs, overseeing career development paths ranging from Level 4 to Level 7. Reflecting on his departure, Child praised the resilience of his team and noted his pride in the company's progress within the AI and digital analytics space.

While Child transitions to his next role, Costa Coffee continues to expand its physical footprint. The company recently celebrated the opening of its 400th UK drive-thru store in Norwich. Property & Store Development Director Nick Ridley emphasized that these sites remain a strategic priority, with plans for 40 additional drive-thru locations by 2026. Despite shifting consumer habits, the brand maintains a network of over 2,800 UK stores, balancing traditional high-street presence with the rising demand for convenience-led formats.
