Fujian cultural week links cross-Strait traditions

More than 1,000 representatives from across the globe gathered at the Linshui Palace in Gutian County this week to honor the legacy of Chen Jinggu. The three-day event, held as part of the 18th Straits Forum, serves as a cornerstone for fostering shared cultural identity and cooperation between Fujian and Taiwan.

Gutian County, long recognized as the cradle of this folk belief, hosted the activities from June 10 to June 12. Chen Jinggu, a legendary Tang Dynasty figure revered as a guardian for women and children, represents a spiritual bond for approximately 120 million believers worldwide. According to Party chief Xu Feng, the county remains committed to these annual gatherings to nurture common cultural roots and demonstrate the resilience of traditional Chinese values.

The event facilitated the launch of a pilot program aimed at deepening cross-Strait exchanges in customs and shared traditions. Participants arrived from various regions including Hong Kong, Macao, Guangdong, and Zhejiang, alongside international delegations from the U.S., Canada, Malaysia, and Singapore. Moving forward, local officials intend to leverage this cultural connection to promote industrial collaboration and youth entrepreneurship, with the goal of encouraging more Taiwan residents to establish roots within the county.
