The study, conducted by Primero Group, evaluated seven potential processing flowsheets before identifying the proprietary ALi® atmospheric leach process as the most viable pathway. Bench-scale testing on project concentrates successfully yielded 99.8% pure Li2CO3, meeting battery-grade standards. This approach offers a departure from the industry-standard sulfuric acid roast, potentially reducing reagent intensity and environmental impact while utilizing Quebec’s low-cost renewable energy for electric calcination.
While the 2025 Feasibility Study for the project remains the primary development focus, this refining strategy represents a long-term growth opportunity. Chief Operations Officer Frederic Mercier-Langevin noted that the initiative could significantly lower the carbon footprint of the supply chain by minimizing the volume of material shipped from the mine gate. PMET intends to advance this work to a Preliminary Economic Assessment level over the coming year to determine the feasibility of integrating the conversion facility into the broader site infrastructure.
