Dr. Jacqueline Youtsos Scholarship Opens 2027 Application Cycle

Aspiring physicians across the United States can now apply for the 2027 Dr. Jacqueline Youtsos Scholarship, a $1,000 award designed to support students who translate personal health struggles into a commitment to providing compassionate, accessible care for underserved populations.

Founded by the Pittsburg, Kansas-based family medicine physician, the scholarship departs from conventional merit-based models by omitting GPA requirements, transcripts, and standardized test scores. Instead, the selection process centers on a 500-to-800-word essay. Applicants must detail a personal health challenge or a specific encounter with the healthcare system that has motivated their pursuit of medicine and their strategy for improving care in vulnerable communities.

Eligibility extends to students enrolled in accredited U.S. undergraduate programs in pre-med, biology, or health sciences, as well as those currently attending M.D. or D.O. medical schools. The initiative reflects the founder’s own unconventional journey; Dr. Youtsos navigated a melanoma diagnosis during her residency before later battling colorectal cancer. Today, she operates ReNu Medical & Spa, where she maintains a practice that accepts Medicare and Medicaid to remove financial barriers for patients. Interested candidates must submit their applications by February 15, 2027, with the recipient set to be announced on March 15, 2027.
