The Bethesda-based nonprofit is coordinating a series of direct interventions across the United States and Puerto Rico to coincide with the dual observances. Scheduled operations include a no-cost cat food bank in Richmond, Virginia, a Trap-Neuter-Return clinic in Granite Shoals, Texas, and medical care initiatives in San Juan. According to Coryn Julien, a program communications officer at the organization, these efforts reinforce the message that cats coexist with local wildlife and deserve institutional protection.
Beyond direct field work, the organization encourages individual advocates to engage in local efforts ranging from social media awareness campaigns to lobbying municipal officials for more humane policies. Alley Cat Allies, led by president and COO Charlene Pedrolie, has championed these nonlethal approaches since 1990. Supporters are invited to document their contributions on October 16 using designated hashtags to highlight the scale of the international movement.
