Georgia Power Promotes Efficiency Tools Ahead of Winter Months

As temperatures drop across the state, Georgia Power is pushing a series of residential energy-saving initiatives and financial assistance programs. With October designated as Energy Efficiency Month, the utility provider aims to help customers manage mounting heating costs through rebates, audits, and targeted discounts for income-eligible households.

The company’s strategy centers on both immediate conservation tactics and long-term infrastructure planning. Residential customers currently benefit from a fuel cost reduction implemented earlier this summer, which provides roughly $50 in annual savings for those using 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month. Looking further ahead, Georgia Power maintains a base rate freeze through 2028, with additional savings projected for 2029 as the company optimizes its generation portfolio.

To curb utility bills, the provider suggests simple home modifications such as installing weatherstripping, sealing attic insulation, and maintaining thermostat settings near 68 degrees. For more extensive upgrades, the Home Energy Improvement Program offers rebates covering half of project costs—up to $1,850 for single-family residences—for improvements like HVAC maintenance and duct sealing. Customers can also utilize the My Power Usage digital tool to monitor consumption patterns and set threshold alerts to prevent unexpected spikes in monthly billing. Those requiring further financial support may qualify for a monthly $33.50 discount or the EASE program, which coordinates free contractor-led energy efficiency installations for qualifying homes.
