Securing the license confirms the environmental feasibility of the terminal, which will occupy 250,000 square meters between existing facilities operated by Vale and CSN. The site will feature a stockyard and deep-water berthing capable of handling vessels at depths of 20 meters, with direct integration into the MRS Logística rail network. This connection creates a vital logistics corridor linking the Iron Quadrangle in Minas Gerais to the coast.
Construction is slated to span three years, creating 3,000 jobs at peak activity. Once operational, the terminal will handle an initial capacity of 15 million tonnes per year, bolstering the competitiveness of the Brazilian mineral industry. Beyond serving Cedro’s own export requirements—which aim for 20 million tonnes of annual production by 2032—the facility will provide mid-sized mining companies direct international market access. The project is expected to generate R$ 1.2 billion in municipal tax revenue over its lifespan, underpinned by a 35-year lease agreement signed following a federal auction in December 2024.
