The initiative represents a collaboration between the national nonprofit Shatterproof, the Virginia Department of Social Services, and 211 Virginia. By integrating the platform into the existing 211 network, officials aim to remove the guesswork often associated with navigating a complex healthcare system during personal or family crises. Users can search for facilities that offer medications for opioid use disorder, transportation assistance, and specialized care tailored to specific demographics.
Shatterproof CEO Pam Jenkins noted that the tool is intended to replace uncertainty with transparency, ensuring that patients can identify programs that consistently utilize proven clinical methods. Duke Storen, Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Social Services, added that the project aligns with the state’s goal of creating a 'no wrong doors' approach to recovery. Beyond individual use, the platform serves as a resource for healthcare systems and community organizations to improve referral accuracy. The state plans to support the rollout with public webinars and stakeholder events in Richmond to educate both providers and the public on utilizing these data-driven resources.
