Saudi and Emirati Institutions Lead 2027 Arab University Rankings

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates dominate the top tier of the 2027 QS Arab University Rankings, securing six of the ten leading spots. King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) retains its position at the summit, reflecting a broader trend of academic excellence spreading across the region.

The latest analysis from QS Quacquarelli Symonds evaluates 325 institutions across 20 locations, highlighting significant shifts in regional academic influence. While Saudi and Emirati schools set the pace, momentum is building elsewhere; Morocco now claims two entries in the top 100, and Al-Quds University has reached its highest-ever rank at 45th, marking a milestone for Palestinian higher education.

Institutional performance varies by specific strengths. KFUPM leads in employer reputation, while King Saud University dominates in international research and web impact. The UAE maintains a clear advantage in attracting international faculty and students. Meanwhile, Egypt remains the volume leader with 44 ranked universities, and Algeria boasts the highest representation with 50 institutions included in the report. Dr. Ashwin Fernandes of QS noted that the competitive landscape is diversifying, with Oman’s private sector showing rapid improvement and institutions across Tunisia, Bahrain, and Iraq gaining ground.
