Lena Dunham and Adam Driver: A Decade of Silence After Girls

Nearly a decade has passed since Lena Dunham and Adam Driver last exchanged words, a silence that persists as HBO prepares for a five-episode return of their hit series Girls. While the show’s original cast is set to reunite, Driver remains conspicuously absent from the upcoming project following explosive allegations.

In her recent memoir, Famesick, Dunham paints a complex portrait of her former co-star, describing a relationship marked by both intense professional partnership and volatile outbursts. She recounts moments where Driver allegedly screamed in her face, threw a chair, and punched a trailer wall. Despite these tensions, Dunham also details a period of profound closeness during the show's first season, noting that the two often rehearsed on weekends and shared intimate, tender exchanges.

Dunham writes that their final encounter occurred after wrapping the series in 2017. As they rode home together, Driver reportedly told her, I’ll always love you, leaving her with a sense of hope for a future collaboration. However, that moment proved to be their definitive end. When confronted about these claims at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, Driver offered no comment, stating only that he is saving his perspective for his own future book. As the Girls cast prepares to film new episodes next year, the distance between the two former leads remains absolute.
