The observational study, conducted in Italy, tracked adult consumers using Ambroxol or Bromhexine for acute chesty coughs over seven days. Researchers utilized validated tools, including the Leicester Cough Questionnaire, to assess the broader impact of medication on quality of life. Data suggests that patients experience functional improvements starting from the very first dose, providing a pathway to regain control over their routines sooner.
Sleep disruption, a primary concern for those suffering from chesty coughs, showed marked improvement within 48 hours. The study recorded a 59% reduction in patients struggling to fall asleep, while reports of sleep-related tiredness dropped by 55%. By the 72-hour mark, participants reported a clinically meaningful improvement in social engagement, allowing them to participate in conversations and daily activities with greater ease. Milena Leone, Global Brand General Manager at Opella, noted that this evidence reinforces the importance of timely intervention in minimizing the disruptive nature of common illnesses.
