American Skin Association Launches Emerging Dermatology Leaders Committee

The American Skin Association has inaugurated its Emerging Dermatology Leaders Advisory Committee, a strategic initiative designed to integrate next-generation clinical perspectives into the nonprofit’s research and advocacy framework. The committee aims to refine the organization’s approach to pipeline therapies, patient education, and long-term scientific priorities.

Nicholas Brownstone, MD, of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, will chair the new group. His appointment follows nearly four decades of ASA operations, during which the organization has distributed over $50 million in research grants targeting conditions ranging from melanoma and psoriasis to vitiligo and hidradenitis suppurativa. The committee serves to bridge the gap between established leadership and emerging trends in dermatologic care.

The committee’s founding roster includes six specialists: Benjamin Ungar, Helen He, Nicholas Gulati, Ahuva Cices, Prince Adotama, and Michael Lor. These physicians bring diverse clinical expertise spanning oncodermatology, hair disorders, cosmetic dermatology, and health disparities. According to Howard P. Milstein, Chairman of ASA, the group’s mandate is to provide fresh insights into research expansion and community outreach strategies. The committee will work directly with the ASA Board to evaluate scientific opportunities and address persistent gaps in patient care, ensuring that the organization remains responsive to rapid shifts in medical practice.
