The 38th Annual CaringKind Alzheimer’s Walk and Brain Health Day, scheduled for October 17 at the Naumburg Bandshell, marks a transition for both the organization and its long-time supporter. Ritter, who spent nearly three decades helping host the event, now advocates for the cause while navigating the disease himself. He will be honored alongside Jed Levine, CaringKind’s President Emeritus, who has been instrumental in the organization’s growth since 1990.
Beyond the walk, the event serves as an interactive hub for early detection. The Naumburg Bandshell will host a dedicated tent where attendees can access free brain health pre-screenings and consult with experts from the NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing and BetterBrain. While these checks do not replace formal medical diagnosis, they provide a starting point for individuals concerned about memory loss.
CaringKind CEO Eleonora Tornatore-Mikesh emphasizes that the goal is to turn awareness into tangible action. The initiative includes nutrition stations, sensory engagement activities, and a "Dream Lounge" specifically designed for those living with memory loss to connect with peers. Registration remains open at CKWALK.ORG for both in-person participation in Central Park and virtual involvement, with all proceeds supporting year-round care consultations and support groups for families navigating dementia.
