Berlin Packaging Named to Newsweek's 2027 Greenest Companies List

For the second time, Chicago-based Berlin Packaging has earned a spot on Newsweek’s list of America’s Greenest Companies. The recognition highlights the global supplier’s ongoing integration of environmental sustainability into its operations, following an evaluation process that scrutinized emissions, water usage, and waste management across 650 top-tier U.S. firms.

The selection process, conducted alongside Plant-A Insights Group and GIST Impact, reviewed over 6,000 candidates to identify those demonstrating measurable environmental accountability. Berlin Packaging was assessed on 25 distinct parameters, with greenhouse gas emissions carrying 50% of the total weight in the final scoring. This accolade arrives as the company shifts its focus toward helping clients navigate increasingly rigorous regulatory landscapes and consumer expectations regarding sustainable packaging.

Global CEO Bill Hayes noted that brand owners are moving beyond simple inquiries about sustainability, instead seeking concrete strategies to accelerate their transition to circular packaging models. Recent data from the company’s 2025 report, Built for Tomorrow, underscores this operational shift. Berlin Packaging achieved Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validation for its emissions reduction goals and secured renewable energy credits covering 100% of its electricity consumption across the Americas. Additionally, the firm increased its supply of post-consumer recycled material by 14% compared to 2024, a metric that Balaji Jayaseelan, Vice President of Sustainability, cites as a primary driver of the company’s long-term growth and capital investment strategy.
