Minesto and Trayen Power Partner to Tap Chile’s Ocean Energy Potential

Minesto and Trayen Power Partner to Tap Chile’s Ocean Energy Potential

Swedish marine energy developer Minesto has signed a memorandum of understanding with Chilean firm Trayen Power to deploy its proprietary Dragon Class technology. The partnership targets the development of tidal and ocean current projects, aiming to provide renewable electricity to both local industrial grids and remote island systems.

Chile offers a unique landscape for ocean energy, characterized by strong natural currents and a significant demand for reliable power in isolated regions. By combining Minesto’s patented low-flow technology with Trayen Power’s local expertise, the collaboration seeks to address decarbonization needs across sectors like coastal infrastructure and aquaculture. The immediate roadmap focuses on site identification, feasibility assessments, and securing the necessary funding for commercial deployment.

Martin Edlund, CEO of Minesto, emphasized that partnering with established local entities is a pillar of the company's market-entry strategy. This approach allows for capital-efficient expansion into new geographies while building a technical foundation for future utility-scale arrays. Miguel Iturrate, CEO of Trayen Power, noted that the collaboration will prioritize moving the most promising project opportunities toward investment readiness, leveraging the strengths of both organizations to accelerate the transition away from imported fuels.
