DJI Debuts Dock 4 With 25-Second Automated Battery Swaps

Cutting turnaround times from a traditional 30-minute recharge to mere seconds, DJI has launched the Dock 4, an automated drone-in-a-box system designed for rapid emergency response. The unit features the new Matrice 5TD enterprise drone, capable of reaching speeds of 21 m/s to provide immediate situational awareness for ground crews.

The system addresses the critical gap between receiving an alert and establishing an aerial view of a scene. By integrating a 25-second battery swap mechanism, the Dock 4 ensures that the Matrice 5TD can maintain near-constant operation, supporting mission times of up to 59 minutes per flight. This capacity is intended for public safety, infrastructure inspections, and overnight security, where every second of response time is vital.

Equipped with a diverse sensor suite, the Matrice 5TD includes an 11× telephoto lens, infrared imaging for thermal detection, and 4K night vision. Navigational safety is managed through three-directional mmWave radar, rotating LiDAR, and six-directional vision sensing, allowing the drone to detect thin obstacles like power lines even in low-light conditions. The hardware is built for resilience, operating in temperatures ranging from -40° to 50° C and handling wind speeds up to 12 m/s. Onboard AI enables the real-time identification of 17 different object types, including vehicles and personnel, which can be tracked and monitored via the DJI FlightHub 2 platform.
