High Templar Tech Faces Tax Hit Amid First Half 2026 Shift

Xiamen-based High Templar Tech Limited reported a net income of RMB416.9 million for the first half of 2026, even as the company navigated the total closure of its last-mile delivery business and a looming RMB790 million tax liability linked to historical equity restructurings by its CEO.

The company’s financial landscape reflects a period of aggressive transition. Total revenue plummeted to RMB8.0 million from RMB29.3 million in the same period last year, a direct result of exiting the last-mile logistics sector. While operating costs saw a modest 10% reduction to RMB188.1 million, the firm faced significant volatility in its investment portfolio. A sharp swing in derivative instruments resulted in a loss of RMB602.7 million, contrasting with a gain of RMB77.5 million in the first half of 2025.

Beyond market operations, the company faces a complex regulatory challenge. Chairman and CEO Luo Min received a tax notice from the Xiamen Municipal Tax Bureau regarding past equity restructurings. Although the tax is personal to Luo, the board has resolved that the company will cover the RMB790 million obligation, citing that the restructurings were conducted solely for the company’s benefit. This payment remains a significant cash outflow as the company continues to manage its RMB3.8 billion cash reserve and ongoing share repurchase program, which has seen 223.4 million ADSs bought back for approximately US$902.5 million since June 2024.
