The October 28 session at the Nordic Pavilion marks a shift in how high-density infrastructure providers view environmental responsibility. While digital expansion has historically prioritized energy efficiency and carbon reduction, atNorth is pushing to incorporate biodiversity monitoring, species-support programs, and heat reuse partnerships into the core lifecycle of data center operations. Justice Selorm Nutakor, the company's Sustainability & Regeneration Manager, will lead the discussion, detailing the practical challenges of balancing commercial growth with regional ecological health.
Cora Olsen, Director of Sustainability & Regeneration at atNorth, emphasized that biodiversity is becoming a critical metric for investors and policymakers alike. The company, which operates seven sites across the Nordics with four additional mega-sites in development, intends to use its Data Center Blueprint to demonstrate that infrastructure projects can actively support local ecosystems rather than merely minimizing harm. This participation aligns with atNorth’s existing commitments as a signatory of the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact and the UN Global Compact, setting a precedent for how developers might align with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
