Achyuta Samanta Named First President of Indian UniSport Federation

Educationist and social reformer Dr. Achyuta Samanta has been unanimously elected as the inaugural president of the Indian UniSport Federation. During Sunday’s general meeting in Bhubaneswar, he outlined a mandate to unify stakeholders and prepare Indian athletes for the upcoming Commonwealth Games held on home soil.

Recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the federation seeks to elevate university-level athletics by fostering transparent governance and expanding training opportunities. Samanta’s leadership follows his extensive work at KIIT and KISS, institutions that have integrated sports science, medical rehabilitation, and professional coaching into their academic models. This ecosystem has produced 24 Olympians and saw 54 students compete at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where they secured 21 medals.

Samanta brings a deep background in sports administration to his new role, having previously presided over the Volleyball Federation of India. He maintains active ties with global bodies including FIFA, FIVB, and FIDE, and has overseen the development of athletes who have claimed both the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awards. In his new capacity, he intends to prioritize athlete-centered development and equitable competition across India’s university sports landscape.
