The production hiatus, officially announced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. on October 5, follows a family matter requiring Reeves’ immediate attention. While cameras had only begun rolling in London on June 12, 2026, the project is now in a state of flux. Despite the stoppage, the studio has maintained the film’s current release date of February 18, 2028, a target that has shifted multiple times since the project was first greenlit.
Pattinson, who previously praised the sequel's script as extraordinary and distinct from the 2022 original, appears to be pivoting his focus while the production remains dormant. The actor is currently generating buzz for his transformative role as journalist Chris Hansen in the upcoming film Primetime. He noted that capturing Hansen's specific vocal cadence for the project—which explores the investigative sting operations of the mid-2000s—proved to be a significant technical challenge.
