US Holiday Sales Poised to Break $1 Trillion Barrier

With 70% of American consumers planning to participate in sales events, retail spending during the Black Friday through Cyber Monday window is projected to exceed $85 billion. This surge represents an 8.75% year-over-year increase, significantly outpacing the broader holiday season growth forecast of 4.5%.

Bain & Company’s latest projections indicate that this concentrated shopping period will account for 8.5% of total 2026 holiday revenue. Data from the firm’s consumer intelligence division, Pyxis, confirms that Black Friday maintains its status as the season's primary kickoff, with 64% of shoppers intending to participate. Cyber Monday is also gaining momentum, moving into the top five sales days as digital shopping habits solidify.

While these specific dates act as vital retail battlegrounds, they are not the sole drivers of the season. Analysts noted that the final two weekends before Christmas remain equally critical, accounting for a significant portion of top-tier sales days in recent years. Aaron Cheris, Global Head of Retail at Bain & Company, emphasized that retailers focusing on personalized promotions and targeted campaigns during these peaks will secure a competitive advantage for the remainder of the year. Total US holiday spending is expected to top $1 trillion for the first time, fueled by a combination of robust in-store activity and sustained e-commerce growth.
