Jose Conejo-Garcia to Headline Ovarian Cancer Midwest Focus Conference

Dr. Jose Conejo-Garcia, the architect behind Anixa Biosciences’ experimental ovarian cancer CAR-T therapy, will take the stage at the 2026 Ovarian Cancer Midwest Focus Conference. His keynote, scheduled for November 3 in Rochester, Minnesota, addresses the persistent challenge of tumor resistance to modern immunotherapies.

The conference, co-hosted by the Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota, serves as a platform for experts to examine the mechanics of the immune system in fighting malignancy. Dr. Conejo-Garcia, a professor at the Duke University School of Medicine, brings his expertise in integrative immunobiology to a clinical audience, focusing on the science that birthed liraltagene autoleucel, or lira-cel.

Lira-cel is currently undergoing a Phase 1 clinical trial conducted alongside the Moffitt Cancer Center. The therapy utilizes chimeric endocrine receptor-T cell technology to target the follicle-stimulating hormone receptor, a protein primarily found on ovarian cancer cells. Early data from the trial indicate a positive safety profile, with no dose-limiting toxicities identified. Clinical observations have shown promise, including four patients surviving more than one year post-treatment, with one participant surpassing the two-year mark. Another patient, treated at the highest dose level, maintained stable disease 90 days following the procedure.
