Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners buys 25% stake in Five Estuaries

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has acquired a 25% stake in the Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm project from a Macquarie-led consortium. The investment, executed via the firm’s fifth flagship fund, integrates CIP into a major energy venture positioned to power one million UK homes upon completion.

The project, situated 40km off the Essex and Suffolk coast, represents a significant addition to the UK’s renewable energy pipeline. With a capacity of up to 1,080MW, the wind farm secured official development consent in December 2025 following a four-year planning phase. CIP joins an existing partnership group that includes EDF power solutions with 33.33%, ESB with 20.83%, and Sumitomo Corporation with 20.83%.

Kunal Patel, a partner at CIP, noted that the acquisition aligns with the firm’s strategy to bolster UK energy security and support local economic growth. Project teams are currently advancing technical designs and procurement activities to transition the site from the planning stage toward construction. Matthieu Hue, CEO of EDF power solutions UK and Ireland, emphasized that the collaborative effort serves to strengthen the company’s existing renewable portfolio while working toward the UK’s long-term energy independence goals.
