The acquisition allows PayJoy to leverage Finia’s proprietary technology, which was specifically engineered to assess the creditworthiness of informal business owners in Mexico who fall outside the reach of conventional lenders. By incorporating these AI models into its existing infrastructure, PayJoy seeks to refine its risk assessment capabilities for its base of 20 million customers.
Finia AI founder Uri Pomerantz stated that the partnership provides a vehicle to scale years of development aimed at underserved entrepreneurs. For PayJoy, the integration represents a tactical expansion of its financial product suite, which currently includes smartphone financing and credit cards. Jose Luis Gonzalez, Head of Growth for PayJoy Mexico, noted that the technology addresses the persistent challenge of underwriting users who lack traditional financial footprints. Existing Finia customers will be directed to PayJoy’s credit offerings as part of the transition.
