Solvely.ai Pivots AI Strategy Toward Cognitive Empowerment

Learning must prioritize human capability over mere task completion, according to Solvely.ai co-founder Richard Weiqi Zhang. Speaking at the Funding Conviction webinar on September 18, Zhang argued that the primary purpose of artificial intelligence in education is to empower the individual rather than replace the cognitive process of learning.

To achieve this, the San Francisco-based company is moving away from simple answer generators. Instead, Solvely builds specialized agent systems that segment complex instructional content, route specific problems to targeted algorithms, and cross-check responses across multiple models to ensure accuracy. This architecture allows for interactive visualizations, where learners manipulate inputs to observe changes in real-time, a capability highlighted in recent work with Anthropic’s Claude.

The platform integrates these agents into practical tools, such as an AI math solver that offers step-by-step guidance and a system that transforms course materials into flashcards and quizzes. For academic integrity, the company has developed its own AI-text detection research, which provides signals for review rather than definitive proof of authorship. This focus on augmenting, rather than automating, the student experience has earned Solvely a spot on the 2026 GSV Cup 50 and the inaugural Prosumer AI 40 list, cementing its position alongside industry leaders like OpenAI and Anthropic.
