Since launching the live streaming service last month, passengers have consumed over 170,000 hours of television, ranging from professional football to reality competitions. The integration of DISH-provided channels, including ABC, CBS, ESPN, and now TBS, arrives as United aggressively scales its Starlink rollout. In September alone, more than 5.4 million customers experienced the satellite-based service, with internal satisfaction scores trending 40 points higher than those on flights equipped with traditional Wi-Fi.
Andrew Nocella, United’s Chief Commercial Officer, noted that the reliability of the system allows travelers to book flights without worrying about missing critical sports moments. Beyond live television, the airline is upgrading its hardware, planning to equip up to 1,000 aircraft with seatback screens by the end of 2027. To incentivize competitors' customers to test the technology, United is currently offering a status match program for loyalty members from Delta and American Airlines who complete qualifying travel within a 90-day window.
