The expansion bolsters the company's manufacturing footprint while introducing the FDX Fusion platform. This next-generation technology focuses on Physical AI, aiming to deliver 7nm-like digital performance alongside integrated analog and radio-frequency capabilities. By consolidating processing, sensing, and real-time control on a single chip, the platform addresses the power-efficiency demands of industrial, automotive, and aerospace sectors.
GlobalFoundries CEO Tim Breen emphasized that the investment secures a vital supply chain for European industry, ensuring that critical technologies remain accessible and locally manufactured. The project, supported by the European Chips Act and regional funding, is currently on schedule. General Manager Manfred Horstmann noted that the site remains fully operational throughout the construction process, allowing for seamless integration of new cleanroom infrastructure. Pending government approval, the company plans to advance FDX Fusion through the IPCEI Advanced Semiconductor Technologies program.
