CCO Adapts Automotive Production Tactics for Defense Manufacturing

A July 2026 inspector general evaluation revealed the U.S. Army produced only 36,000 of its 100,000-round monthly goal for 155mm projectiles, exposing a critical bottleneck in the defense industrial base. Cornerstone Consulting Organization is now deploying its automotive-tested production platform to bridge this massive output gap.

The defense sector currently struggles with fragile supplier networks and persistent shortages of skilled labor, leaving production targets unmet. Cornerstone Consulting Organization (CCO) aims to stabilize these supply chains by importing methodologies honed over a decade in the high-stakes automotive industry, where they routinely resolved launch delays and quality crises.

CCO’s strategy, dubbed Industrial Time on Target, focuses on synchronizing logistics, equipment, and personnel to ensure output hits specific deadlines. Co-founder Bill Currence emphasizes that success requires all production variables to arrive simultaneously at the system's constraint. To achieve this, the firm integrates three distinct services: mapping production flow to eliminate bottlenecks, deploying engineers and technicians directly to factory floors, and providing technical training to ensure long-term workforce retention after consultants depart.
