Kim’s appointment marks a transition in the firm’s executive leadership as current Chief Legal Officer Steve Kemps prepares to retire at the end of the year. Kemps will remain with the company as a special advisor until December 31, 2026, to facilitate the handover. During his tenure at Gartner, Kim managed global legal and compliance departments, internal audit, and risk management, while also briefly leading the firm's $200 million digital markets division.
Prior to his time at Gartner, Kim spent years at Thomson Reuters, where he held several senior roles including Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary. His background includes navigating complex international business operations, such as the separation of a $6 billion financial and risk data division and managing the company’s presence in China. A Stanford University graduate, Kim began his career in private practice in San Francisco before moving into public company legal leadership.
