Tesco appoints Kingfisher’s Chris Blatchford as new CTO

Tesco has tapped Kingfisher’s group technology chief Chris Blatchford to serve as its next Chief Technology Officer, marking a significant leadership shift for the UK grocery giant. Blatchford is set to join the executive committee in March 2027, taking the reins from the outgoing Guus Dekkers.

Dekkers will retire this December, concluding an eight-year tenure that saw him oversee the retailer’s digital and technical modernization. To bridge the gap, Technology Director Jane Mustoe will step into the role as acting CTO starting next month.

Blatchford arrives from Kingfisher, where he currently leads technology across brands including B&Q, Screwfix, Castorama, and Brico Dépôt. Tesco Group Chief Executive Ken Murphy praised the incoming hire for his experience in large-scale digital transformation and his track record of building high-performing teams, expressing confidence that Blatchford will sustain the momentum established during Dekkers' term.
