El-Sayed Denounces Trump’s Latest Rhetorical Attacks

After Donald Trump launched another public assault on his faith and identity, Michigan U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed accused the former president of weaponizing bigotry to distract voters from the tangible economic hardships and rising cost-of-living burdens currently facing American families.

On his Truth Social network, Trump labeled El-Sayed a “radical extremist” and “terrorist sympathizer,” repeatedly misidentifying the candidate as “Mohammed” and invoking inflammatory rhetoric regarding jihad. El-Sayed, a 41-year-old physician and former Wayne County health director who secured the Democratic nomination in August, countered that these personal attacks serve as a strategic diversion from the failure of Republican policies to address inflation at the gas pump and the grocery store.

This incident follows a pattern of escalating hostility. Last month, Trump shared side-by-side images of himself and his wife alongside El-Sayed and his wife, Dr. Sarah Jukaku, under the caption “Two VERY DIFFERENT America’s.” The Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned the post as explicitly racist. As El-Sayed seeks to become the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Senate, he has maintained that the focus should remain on policy goals such as campaign finance reform and the expansion of Medicare for All, rather than the divisive identity politics favored by his opponent, Mike Rogers, and the former president.
