XKIG Expands Midwest Infrastructure Footprint via WLM Acquisition

Norfolk-based XKIG has acquired Burlington-based Wilderness Land Management, a strategic move to bolster its utility vegetation services across Iowa. By merging the contractor into its Kendall Vegetation Services unit, the infrastructure firm gains a specialized workforce and established regional operations focused on rights-of-way clearing and emergency response.

The integration of Wilderness Land Management adds essential capacity to XKIG’s power and gas utility offerings. The Iowa company brings a portfolio spanning chemical vegetation management, forestry mulching, and large-scale land clearing. Randolph Hoover, CEO of XKIG, noted that the acquisition leverages WLM’s existing reputation for safety and community trust to solidify the firm’s foothold in the Midwest.

For WLM, the transition provides access to the broader resources and technical expertise of the national parent company. Brady Bennett, who led WLM as president, emphasized that the merger allows the team to scale its operations while maintaining the localized service standards that defined its growth in Iowa. The combined entity will continue to prioritize storm restoration and transmission system maintenance as part of a broader push to harden critical energy infrastructure.
