The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services reported the 40% reduction in assaults during August compared to the same period last year, marking a successful trial for the Axon Body 4 cameras now being deployed across all 17 of its facilities. This shift mirrors broader efforts across the country to modernize prison oversight and officer protection through digitized evidence and real-time operations.
New York’s Department of Corrections and Community Supervision has integrated an expansive suite of tools, including drone technology and in-car video, across its 42 facilities to support 15,000 officers. Similarly, the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction has leveraged TASER 10 devices and airspace security systems to prioritize de-escalation. Their data indicates an 87% force avoidance rate, with 46 out of 53 incidents resolved through the mere presence of energy weapons rather than physical deployment. As these agencies pilot new AI-driven productivity tools, the focus remains on balancing accountability with the practical demands of secure facility management.
