Americans endure holiday seating discomfort for Thanksgiving tradition

While 82% of Americans agree that the stress of organizing a Thanksgiving dinner is justified by the joy of gathering, the physical experience often falls short. Survey data reveals that diners rate the comfort of their holiday seating at a meager 3.7 out of 10, despite spending hours at the table.

The average Thanksgiving meal lasts two hours and 24 minutes, yet 93% of guests linger long after the final course. This extended duration highlights a significant gap between social expectations and physical comfort, particularly as Gen Z participants increasingly push for even longer gatherings. For many, the dinner table serves as the primary hub for family interaction, with reminiscing, family gossip, and life updates topping the list of preferred conversation topics.

Responding to these findings, furniture manufacturer Stressless is positioning its new Bay Low Back reclining dining chair as a solution to holiday fatigue. The chair features a flexible seat and back that adjust to the user's movements, a design intended to mitigate leg pressure during the long hours spent in conversation. With 76% of survey respondents emphasizing the importance of comfort and 46% specifically prioritizing ergonomics, the brand is currently offering a $200 discount on its dining collection through October 26 to encourage upgrades before the holiday season.
