CardioOne Merges with CardioSphere to Scale Independent Cardiology

The cardiology sector sees a major shift as CardioOne integrates CardioSphere and the Midwest Cardiovascular Institute into its network. This consolidation aims to transition physicians away from hospital employment models, replacing traditional corporate structures with physician-owned groups that maintain deep, strategic ties to regional health systems.

This partnership marks a significant expansion for CardioOne, which now supports over 110 providers across the country. By incorporating the Midwest Cardiovascular Institute—a prominent practice in Chicago’s western suburbs—the organization is scaling its ability to offer joint-venture ambulatory surgery centers and professional service arrangements. This model allows doctors to reclaim clinical autonomy without severing the professional relationships they have built with local hospitals.

Mark Goodwin, President of the Midwest Cardiovascular Institute, and Jacob Corbell founded CardioSphere in 2024 to address the systemic challenges facing independent practices. They are joined by Cathie Biga, the past President of the American College of Cardiology, who will serve as CardioOne’s Chief Strategy Officer. The leadership team intends to prove that physician independence and hospital alignment are compatible strategies rather than opposing forces, providing an alternative to the rising economic pressures of current employment models.
