According to the GMB, internal company data points toward the Coventry and Minworth sites as primary targets for this surveillance. The Atlas system reportedly aggregates information ranging from staff correspondence to comments made on external platforms like Reddit to predict and discourage collective bargaining efforts. This development surfaces just as new trade union access rights prepare to take effect in the UK, prompting the union to demand immediate answers from the government regarding the legality of such monitoring.
Rachel Fagan, a GMB organizer, condemned the practice as an Orwellian intrusion into the lives of British workers. She argued that Amazon has consistently demonstrated a disregard for local industrial relations norms. Foxglove, a non-profit advocating for fair technology, has also joined the criticism, labeling the software a nakedly anti-union tool designed to undermine legal rights. The organization is currently reviewing the matter alongside warehouse staff who are already engaged in litigation against Amazon over separate labor practices. Amazon did not respond to requests for comment regarding the use of Atlas in its British facilities.
