Michael Jackson’s Most Iconic Thriller Artifacts Head to Auction

Four artifacts that permanently altered the landscape of global pop culture—including the original black and candy-red leather jacket from Michael Jackson’s 1983 Thriller music video—are heading to the auction block. Julien’s Auctions will host the sale on December 7 at the Rosewood Abu Dhabi, marking a rare return for these pieces.

The centerpiece of the collection is the Thriller jacket designed by Deborah Nadoolman Landis. It remains one of only two created for the production and stands out as the sole version worn by Jackson without zombie makeup. Alongside the jacket, collectors will find the black Florsheim loafers Jackson wore during the video's filming and rehearsals, which come with a signed letter addressed to choreographer Michael Peters.

Also featured is the rhinestone-studded glove worn during the legendary Motown 25 performance, where Jackson debuted his signature Moonwalk. The glove is estimated to fetch between $600,000 and $800,000, returning to the market for the first time since 2009. The accompanying pair of loafers worn during those rehearsals carries an estimate of $60,000 to $80,000. Martin Nolan, co-founder of Julien's Auctions, described the sale as a privilege, noting the firm’s history of setting records with these specific items. Before the final gavel falls in Abu Dhabi, the artifacts will undergo an international preview tour through Japan, Bahrain, and the United States.
