Clarivate Completes $600 Million Sale of Life Sciences Segment

Clarivate has finalized the $600 million sale of its Life Sciences & Healthcare division to Altaris, LLC, a move aimed at streamlining the company’s portfolio. The divestiture marks a pivot toward a subscription-first model focused heavily on its core Academia & Government and Intellectual Property markets.

The transaction, first announced in July, provides Clarivate with a significant capital infusion intended to reduce debt and improve its balance sheet. CEO Matti Shem Tov described the sale as a critical component of the company's Value Creation Plan, designed to enhance financial flexibility and sharpen its focus on AI-driven innovation. By shedding the healthcare segment, the firm intends to concentrate resources on its remaining high-growth areas, including the Web of Science and Derwent patent intelligence platforms.

Following the divestiture, Clarivate’s operations will center on two primary pillars: Academia & Government, which supports research institutions and libraries, and Intellectual Property, which manages patent and trademark protection services. CFO Michael Easton noted that the simplified business model is expected to drive sustainable growth and long-term shareholder value. The company plans to provide a detailed update on its revised financial trajectory during its third-quarter earnings call on November 3, 2026.
